Regular Doctor's visit and progress report

As any mother and expecting mother will be lecturing you about, it's important to get regular check ups withy our doctor, especially if the your family has a history of pregnancy complications.

Ofcourse, considering that everything up until now has been going just fine, no bugs or errors, this cycle's visit to the doctor's office is really a formality. Mairi's started to look forward to talking to Mr. Scanner.

That'll do fine. Phong holds the sensor ready. "Now, please execute one of your Glitch-powers."

"--which one?" says Bob, taken aback.

"Any one."

Hm. Well, there are no Tears in the vicinity, which limits the options somewhat... Bob holds his hands out and generates a small containment bubble in midair.

Phong directs the sensor at Bob's hands and checks the output window. He shakes his head. "Another, please."

Now a simple shapeshift, turning his hand into a cutting blade and back again.

"No..."

And so on.

Shields turn up nothing. So do more complex shapeshifts. Finally... "Phong, there's nothing left to try except energy beams, and I'm not gonna do that indoors..."

"Indulge an old sprite." He points at a desk. "I never liked that mug anyway."

Bob quirks an eyebrow. "Well, okay, if you say so..."

Bzzzzap.

The mug explodes in a slight spatter of residual cocoa, and a piece of machinery beeps. "Ah!" exclaims Phong. "I believe we have a match."

Then he pauses to consider what he's just said. "Oh, dear."

"Phong. You did not just say Mairi currently has the ability to shoot energy beams."

That's not good.

"The signal is very faint," Phong says hastily. "It matches Bob's output immediately prior to discharge, but on a much lower frequency. I would take her to be charging, very gradually."

"She's growing, very gradually."

"...what's she charging up for??"

"To discharge. It appears to be an automatic function."

Oh.

Well.

That's.

Just.

PERFECT.

Dot's just going to be facepalming and sighing right here, after giving Bob a long look. No trouble. Right.

And Bob is giving her a 'what are you blaming me for??' look right back.

"'Nothing's gone wrong yet.... There's no reason to think anything will.'?" Dry look. "At least we can be prepared for when she starts discharging."

Phong nods and politely ignores their semisilent conversation.

"The discharges should be quite weak," he says, "but if we can discover a stimulus, I would advise encouraging her to discharge as often as possible, before she can build up too much."

"What's she going to be discharging into?"

.

"Maybe you might not want to be too close when she really starts up with the kicking."

Phong nods. "Another reason to keep it weak and frequent."

"We'd best start looking for things she'll react with the energy beams to." Dot muses a moment. "Maybe rig up something that emits a signal like Mr. Scanner there..."
