Wedding: The Morning After

It's the day after the night of the wedding, and slowly, after a long night's sleep, Mrs. Matrix climbs out of bed with her husband and stretches out for the morning. And for once, she doesn't have to go for work for the cycle. They have the entire day to themselves, for whatever they want to do together.

...what do they want to do?

"Honey..."

"Hm?" Bob's head lifts from the pillow just a bit. His eyelids flutter open.

"Morning..." He may be getting a nice wake-up kiss in a moment. "Sleep well?"

Bob makes an affirmative noise as he leans into the kiss.

"Good morning... wife."

"...so...Mr. Matrix... how do you feel?"

Bob thinks for a moment.

"Not bad. Not bad at all."

Goooood.

"Anything you feel like doing this cycle? Since we have it to ourselves for once."

"Oh, I can think of a few things," says Bob with a grin.

Liar. There's only one thing he wants to do today, and its name is 'Dot Matrix.'

"Am I going to have to drag out our copy of the Kitsune Sutra?"

One day, Dot will find an entirely appropriate way to thank Foxtrot for introducing them to that...

"Well, Enzo is out of the house for the cycle..."

"Mhmm...I like the way you think."

But they can't spend the entire day with the Sutra...

"And how about Fibanocci's for breakfast? I'm sure we could get extra BLACKBERRYs and some whipped cream with the morning grocery delivery..."

"Sounds good to me."

Bob slides out of bed and heads for the closet.

"You know," he comments as he eases a bathrobe onto his shoulders, "I always thought it'd be... different, y'know?"

"Mhmm?" Dot clicks on her icon to her 't-shirt and slacks' combo to greet at the door. "Different how?"

"I dunno, just... different. I mean, I have to keep reminding myself that we're married now. It's weird."

(He's dimly aware of the slender thread of code linking the two of them together--like the bond between a keytool and its operator, but so subtle that it's difficult to find unless you're looking for it.)

"...You know...according to a lot of people we were in a way already married."

"According to who?"

[command_dot_com]

"Remember my first conversation with Mr. Donighal?" Dot replies, smiling. "Last year?"

"Yyyyeah... but does that really count? He'd just met you."

[command_dot_com]

"...was he that far off then?" Dot replies softly. It had taken them how long before their first kiss? "And have we changed all that much since then?"

"I have," Bob murmurs, looking down at his bare, unscarred forearm.

Changed from regular guardian, to web-damaged, to half-keytool with web damage...

Dot's hand goes to her stomach, thinking of the tiny life growing inside.

"We both have."

Bob nods.

"And... I guess this is just one more change."

[command_dot_com]

"Lots of small changes...leading up to what feels like a larger one."

And yet..it's familiar and it's comfortable. Living together for the past few months has really helped things smooth along. "And many more to come."

Bob gently lays his hand over hers.

"Yeah."

Dot just leans into him a little bit, it's a big step for both of them... "It feels right though."

Bob wraps both arms around her. "I never doubted that for a nanosecond."
